🍿WATCH NEXT First 24 Hours in Egypt ► 🤍 🔔 PLEASE SUBSCRIBE, for more travel vlogs ► 🤍 👕 15% OFF CUTS Clothing ► 🤍 Siwa Oasis, Egypt - The urban oasis of Siwa is one of Egypt’s most isolated settlements with a population of about 33,000 people, mostly made of Berbers; an ethnic group indigenous to North Africa, and being so remote, they’ve developed their own unique desert culture. Almost Every Egyptian friend we spoke with since the beginning of our trip in Cairo told us we should go east towards Sharm El Sheik and Dahab first, instead of Siwa Oasis. They said the mountains are beautiful and the Red Sea beach resorts are pristine and relaxing… but instead, we chose to go West. a grueling 9-hour journey towards the Libyan border all because I saw a photo of place that looked so unique to anything I’d ever experienced. The ancient Citadel of Shali, rising up through the heart of modern downtown Siwa, tucked away in Egypt’s Western Desert. It looked so different and foreign in photographs and now walking up through here in person proved that unwavering urge to be true. This fortified city was built by Berber populations in the 13th century to protect inhabitants from wandering tribes. The Siwa Shali is a Labyrinth of huddled buildings that once rose four or five stories high and housed hundreds of people, and the entire compound is made of mud from clay, salt and rock that acts as a natural insulator from the scorching summer months. In 1926 however, a three-day torrential rain storm caused more damage than any invader had managed in hundreds of years, and people have since moved out to more modern homes with running water and electricity. But what remains, is one of the coolest ruins I’ve ever seen. Along with the incredible Egyptian Food, one of the most popular attractions in Siwa Oasis are the salt pools outside of downtown Siwa. You see, years ago people realized that there’s a lot of money to be made in the salt trade here in Siwa, and inevitably mines were created to extract the natural resource from the massive dried up salt lakes just outside town. As diggers dug, the holes would naturally fill with freshwater from underground springs, and the crazy aqua green and turquoise colored pools that would form as a result, are what we came to see first-hand. As if an isolated community, wildly interesting ruins, and multi-colored therapeutic salt pools weren’t enough, oh yeah, Siwa is also the perfect gateway into the Western Sahara Desert. We finish this picture perfect trip to Siwa, as per usual, with a meal and a new perspective. It was easy getting here, but the juice was most definitely worth the squeeze. Siwa is an island in the middle of the desert, where the Great Sand Sea comes to rest at the foot of the date palms. This large oasis, bordered by its two lakes of turquoise blue, is unique in Egypt and attracts travellers in search of authenticity, far from the hordes of tourists who flock to the banks of the Nile. I took a trip to Siwa a few months ago and it was one of the most beautiful cities I've experienced in Egypt. It truly is a golden oasis with all the stunning sunsets and the natural colors of everything around you. Highlights of this trip include the Talist eco-lodge we stayed at, the western desert, the salt lakes, the sunsets, the natural springs and the people. Egypt is such a beautiful country and I look forward to experiencing it to the fullest. A man was seen floating in a salt pool at Egypt's Siwa Oasis. The man, Kene Nwobu, entered the small but deep pool dressed in all white clothes. Nwobu says he travels to a new country every month and had planned to visit the Siwa Oasis for two years but was delayed because of COVID-19 lockdowns. #Egypt #SiwaOasis #SaltPool

Siwa Oasis, Egypt, the land of wonders, strangeness and mystery. different eye on Siwa Oasis, As you never sea it before. The Siwa Oasis (Arabic: واحة سيوة, Wāḥat Sīwah, is an urban oasis in Egypt; between the Qattara Depression and the Great Sand Sea in the Western Desert, 50 km (30 mi) east of the Libyan border, and 560 km (348 mi) from the capital of Egypt ( Cairo ). Its fame primarily from its ancient role as the home to an oracle of Ammon, the ruins of which are a popular tourist attraction which gave the oasis its ancient name Oasis of Amun Ra, a major Egyptian deity. The Siwa oasis is in a deep depression that reaches below sea level, to about −19 meters (−62 ft). To the west the Jaghbub oasis rests in a similar depression and to the east , the large Qattara Depression is also below sea level. About 80 km (50 mi) in length and 20 km (12 mi) wide, Siwa Oasis is one of Egypt's most isolated settlements with about 24,000 people, mostly Siwi berbers. Siwa has been noted for its dates since ancient times, and today date palm cultivation is by far the largest component of its economy. In a distant second place, with about one-fifth of the scale as dates, is olive cultivation. Handicrafts like basketry are also of regional importance. Tourism has in recent decades become a vital source of income. Much attention has been given to creating hotels that use local materials and display local styles who developed a very isolated desert culture and a language called Siwi; they are also fluent in the Egyptian dialect of Arabic which is called "Masry" meaning Egyptian.

The Egyptian oasis of Siwa is the stuff of desert daydreams. A place so far away from urbanized world and its dirty politics, far away from its dirty environment & pollution and its dirty make-believe life. So far away, once there you are suddenly dragged back to some medieval time. Brimmed with abundance, endless gardens of palm trees and olive trees, natural crystal-clear water springs and salt lakes, Siwa could very well be one of the lost paradises on earth. We didn't expect one of the coolest places in Egypt to be a small town just 50 miles from the Libyan border. But the Siwa Oasis has it all. History, adventure, and culture all come together to make Siwa a place worth adding to your Egypt itinerary. Siwa, Egypt is a magical place in Egypt's Western Desert. The town is packed with history and was even one of the most important stops for the famed conqueror Alexander the Great. With towering sand dunes, natural springs, salt pools, Roman ruins, and a city intertwined with an ancient fortress, Siwa should be on every visitor's Egypt bucket list. Siwa Oasis has so much to see and explore, and one of the best parts about this desert paradise is that a lot of it can be visited with a trusty bicycle! We rented this bike from a vendor outside of the Albabenshal Guest House at the base of Shali Fortress, and then visited the following sites by bicycle: 1. Lake Siwa 2. Mountain of the Dead 3. The Temple of the Oracle 4. Umm Ubayd Temple 5. Cleopatra's Bath (cold spring) 6. Salt Lakes (after the long *and windy* bike ride, I wouldn't recommend riding bike all the way out here!) 7. Abdo Restaurant (gotta eat a hearty dinner after all that riding!) 8. Shali Fortress (unfortunately we got there too late and it was closed for the evening) We can't wait to show you Siwa Oasis when you come to Egypt on your own Egypt adventure! Siwa lakes are considered to have healing properties for sinus, skin, and eye conditions, which, added to the relaxing experience they offer because of its insulated location, have allowed the oasis to be promoted as a medical and recreational destination. Tourism at the Siwa salt lakes is still at an early stage, due to relative lack of promotion, amounts to about 10,000 Egyptians and some 500 foreigners a year. That situation has kept these lakes largely pure Share your thoughts in the Comment Section Below. Alexander's relationship with the ancient deity known as Zeus-Ammon is one of the great mysteries of his life. Zeus was considered the ruler of the Olympian gods in ancient Greece and Macedon. Amun, called "Ammon" in Greece, was the parallel "king of the gods" in the religion of ancient Egypt. Unlike many religions, the religion of ancient Greece was capable of incorporating foreign deities into their belief system. A god could take on different forms depending on the place and circumstances. By Alexander's time, Zeus-Ammon was a well-known deity in Greece - basically a hybrid of these two chief gods. This hybrid god called Zeus-Ammon had an oracle who was located deep in the Libyan desert, a few hundred miles west of Memphis, the Egyptian capital city. The oracles of antiquity were prophets believed to possess a unique connection to the gods. This connection allowed them to forecast the future, which was an ability in especially high demand among the great royals and warriors of the day. Alexander the Great was no exception. This Oracle of Ammon was located in the Siwah Oasis - a 50-mile stretch of trees and vegetation found deep in the northern Sahara desert. Siwah had first become an important sacred site in the Mediterranean world in the 7th century BCE, three centuries before Alexander's time. It was widely believed by that time that the Greek mythological hero Heracles (and probably Perseus) had made a pilgrimage there to consult Zeus Ammon. Alexander, a student of the lives of the mythological heroes, knew these stories. In 331 BCE, after successfully reaching Egypt and "liberating" its people from Persian rule, Alexander and a small group of followers embarked on his own desert excursion to speak to the famous oracle. According to Oxford historian Robin Lane Fox, this trip represented the "strangest strand in Alexander's life and legend" (Alexander the Great, 201). It's regarded as strange for a couple of reasons: (1) it represents one of the few times Alexander seemed to make a detour to a place with no obvious strategic significance to his campaign, and (2) a variety of supernatural legends and rumors came out of the trip that continue to puzzle historians today.Once they reached the Oasis, Alexander was immediately guided to the the Temple of the Oracle, where he was greeted publicly by the high priest. This greeting was a significant moment, as it may have been used to justify Alexander's later claims to be the son of Zeus-Ammon. In Plutarch's version, Alexander was welcomed to the Temple by the high priest "on the god's behalf as a father greeting his son" (27). Curtius also says the high priest greeted Alexander as son, and explained to him that this designation was given by his father Jupiter (Zeus)" But not everything Alexander learned during his private chat with Ammon is known. Plutarch references a letter, allegedly sent from Alexander to his mother Olympias, in which Alexander promises to reveal the contents of his conversation with the god to her alone once he returned to Macedon (27). Unfortunately, Alexander never made it back to Macedon. Whatever secrets Alexander wished to share with Olympias died with him. Read more here: 🤍

Fascinating to be in the same space and rooms where Alexander the Great walked to meet the Priests of Amun and ask them a couple of questions: a) whether he was the son of Zeus b) whether he will conquer the known World. Whatever were the answers (which Alexander the Great never disclosed) , he did in deed conquered the known World !!!
