New Range Rover Sport review: The perfect car?

Meet the new Range Rover Sport! It’s the sportier edition of the world-renowned Range Rover, and Mat’s about to find out if you SUV lovers should go for the sport edition over the standard model. On first impressions, it’s unmistakably a Range Rover, with a whole load of similarities to the standard edition. However, there are a couple of differences that show off that it’s the Sport edition. Around the back, there’s a big roof spoiler (the largest on any Range Rover, no less!), and both the front and rear are a bit more curvaceous than the standard Range Rover. On the inside, the similarities continue, with the same dashboard and infotainment screen design. The centre console is slightly different, but overall it’s unmistakably a Range Rover of some description. The infotainment system is good (if a bit laggy) and you’re treated to a large digital dial display. Some areas of the cabin feel a bit cheaper than the standard Range Rover, but you certainly wouldn’t be disappointed if you were driving this on a daily basis! There are a number of petrol, diesel and hybrid engines to choose from, but the range-topper is a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can deliver 530hp! However, the plug-in hybrid isn’t a bad option, with a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six & electric motor delivering 510hp, along with the option to travel up to 70 miles on electric power alone! The Range Rover Sport starts from £80,000, but is it really worth choosing over competitors such as the Porsche Cayenne or BMW X5? Or more importantly, should you just pay a bit more and go for the standard Range Rover? You’ll have to join Mat and find out for yourself! NEW Mazda CX-60 review: Mazda has levelled up!

02.12.2022

The CX-60 is the most powerful, luxurious Mazda ever - and we’ve driven it. Read more at Auto Express: New 2022 Mazda CX-60 plug-in hybrid review: 🤍 New 2022 Mazda CX-60 specs and details: 🤍 SUBSCRIBE for more new car reviews and Steve Sutcliffe track tests: 🤍 The new CX-60 represents Mazda's push to go premium and take on established German brands in the upmarket SUV sector – we're talking Audi, BMW and Mercedes. Plenty of other brands have tried the same trick in the past with mixed results. Lexus, for example, has finally made it work with its latest NX, rising to the top of the class, but for the likes of Infiniti (in Europe at least) the outcome wasn't as successful. But Mazda has engineering heritage and experience on its side, and it's launching the CX-60 with a very 'of-the-moment' powertrain. It's a plug-in hybrid that combines a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a 17.8kWh battery feeding an electric motor for a total of 323bhp and 500Nm (making it the most powerful road car Mazda has ever built), plus a claimed all-electric range of 39 miles. In some ways, that latter figure is a shame, because just one more mile would see it drop from the 12 per cent Benefit in Kind tax banding to just eight per cent, upping its appeal to company car users. But there's still plenty to like, with the potential for up to 188mpg and CO2 emissions as low as 33g/km, yet still a lively 0-62mph sprint of 5.8 seconds. Given the Japanese brand's ambition to take on premium players, we're trying the top-spec £48,050 Takumi model, which really shows the car off in its best light. Mazda is making much of its Japanese heritage with a 'Crafted in Japan' tag line, and the tactile fabric on the dash – highlighted by some intricate and delightfully precise stitching. Light maple wood trim inlays also help it feel good for the money, combined with the attractive metal detailing and soft leather dotted around the cabin. Can the CX-60 haul Mazda into the premium sector? Nicola Hume finds out in this review. The most hi-tech car I've ever driven!

06.11.2022

Meet the most luxurious, hi-tech cars BMW has ever released - the new BMW 7 Series & BMW i7! Mat’s flown over to America to get his hands on these two luxurious limos to give them a full-blown, proper in-depth review! Let’s start with a look at the design. One thing’s for sure, from the back and the side, there’s no hiding that this is clearly a 7 Series. Sure there have been a few design upgrades over the previous generation, but the side and rear profile are quite clearly in the traditional 7 Series mold. But of course, it’s up top where things get interesting, with an absolutely massive double kidney grille that dominates the front end. Combine this with the split headlight design on either side, and you've got yourself one car that will definitely turn heads! Once you step inside, you are treated to a cabin absolutely full of high-quality materials, including leather & carbon on the dash, soft-touch felt on the roof, and super comfortable cashmere seats. You’ll also find the same swooping infotainment screen as in the new iX. But of course, the main feature of this interior is the huge 31-inch 8K cinema screen in the back! This thing is absolutely insane, and when you combine it with the ability to fully recline the seats in the back, there’s no denying that this is pretty much the best bit of technology we’ve got our hands on in any car… EVER! When it comes to performance, the range-topping BMW i7 60 comes with two electric motors to deliver 544hp and 745Nm of torque. It comes with a 102kWh battery pack that’s good for a claimed range of 388 miles. As for the BMW 7 Series, it comes with a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that delivers an almost identical 544hp and 750Nm. As for the price, the 7 Series starts at £102,000, while the i7 starts at £108,000. But are they both worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself! Is this best new car? Honda Civic review

This is the all-new Honda Civic! The previous edition of the Civic was one of the most popular & recognisable family cars on the road. The question is, does the all-new edition offer enough to sway you away from a different family hatchback? Well, let’s see what’s on offer. In terms of the design, it’s markedly different to the previous model, with a swooping tailgate around the rear through to an updated front with LED headlights and a new grille. On the inside, you’ll be treated to a simple but well-laid-out dash. There are good quality materials throughout most of the cabin, along with physical dials to make it easy to manage climate controls. The infotainment has also been updated, although it’s pretty middle of the road. Thankfully though, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come as standard! Considering it’s a family hatchback, it’s still not the cheapest. The entry-level edition starts at just under £30,000! But does it offer enough for you to still choose it over the competition? You’ll have to stick with Mat and see for yourself! This is the all-new MG4! Mat’s got his hands on this family-friendly EV, and he’s about to see if it can compete with class leaders such as the Volkswagen ID.3 and Cupra Born. For starters, it looks great from the outside! Top-of-the-range models get a smart light bar around the back and a cool roof spoiler. What’s more, they also come with a black roof and blacked-out rear windows. There’s also a super cool front splitter up top, along with some smart daytime running lights. One thing’s for sure, this car looks much more expensive than it actually is! The good news is, the good looks continue on the inside. There are two large separate infotainment and dial screens, and a smart two-spoke steering wheel. You’ll also find good-quality materials throughout the majority of the cabin. The infotainment system is ok, but it does also come with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay as standard. There are two choices of batteries, with the range-topper being 61kWh. This then comes with a range of up to 281 miles, along with a 203hp motor. This car, and the entry-level, are both rear-wheel drive. So what's the price? Well, it starts from just over £26,000! Think it sounds too good to be true? You’ll have to join Mat for this all-new review to see for yourself! The 2023 BMW i7 xDrive60 ($194,200 as specced in Canada, $151,600 in the US) is the fully electric variant of the brand new 7 series lineup. Aiming to be a supremely luxurious and tech’d out experience, the new 7 series is available with a massive 31 inch entertainment screen for the rear passengers. Coupled with the optional Bowers & Wilkins surround sound system, the i7 could be mistaken for a portable movie theater. It also boasts a commendable 536 horsepower and 549 lb ft of torque from a dual motor setup, and has rear-wheel steering to boot. But does the level of luxury and tech match the hefty price tag? And how does it compare to its competition? Thomas and James share their thoughts! We hope you enjoy the episode! Thanks for watching. SUBSCRIBE! NEW Honda Civic Type R review: the best hot hatch in HISTORY

Steve Sutcliffe drives the 2022 FL5 Honda Civic Type R on road and track. Read more at Auto Express: New 2022 FL5 Honda Civic Type R specs and details: 🤍 New 2022 FL5 Honda Civic Type R review: 🤍 SUBSCRIBE for more new car reviews and Steve Sutcliffe track tests: 🤍 Despite the rabid anticipation surrounding the new Honda Civic Type R, and the eye-watering £46,995 price tag Honda has just attached to it, the car itself contains surprisingly few all-new components beside the car it replaces. Yes, it has a new bodyshell that’s 15 per cent stiffer than before (which is a great starting point) but its engine and gearbox are essentially the same as before, as are its steering, brakes and suspension. And yet the overall result is a hot hatchback that once again rewrites the rules when it comes to front-wheel drive dynamics. It is, quite simply, the best hot hatchback there has ever been. In places, by quite some margin. How? Well what Honda has done with the Type R this time is clever, and quite unusual. Rather than spend time and money developing a range of brand-new components, Honda’s engineers have instead evolved what they already knew worked rather well on the existing Type R, fine tuning them to a level that would never have been possible had they started from scratch. On the one hand, you could argue that the budget wouldn’t have allowed them to develop an all-new powertrain in the first place, so they had no option but to work on what they already had. But on the other hand, few manufacturers would have the confidence to allow its engineers to spend four years essentially honing a car that was already in a class of one, but that’s essentially what Honda has done here. Steve Sutcliffe tests the newcomer on road and track in this first drive review. This is the all-new Toyota BZ4X! It’s Toyota’s first purpose-built electric car, and Mat’s on hand to find out whether it has what it takes to compete with class leaders such as the VW ID.4, Audi Q4 e-tron & Kia EV6! So let’s take a closer look. For starters, the BZ4X looks pretty stylish at first, with a sloping roof and full-length light bar at the back, through to some pretty smart chrome panelling at the front. However, on closer inspection, there’s quite a bit of plastic cladding across the car, including the rear bumper and around the wheel arches - not what you’d normally expect from a top-of-the-range model! Thankfully, the interior is pretty impressive. The model we have here has a large infotainment screen up front, and the cabin generally has a bit of a futuristic feel to it. You can get the BZ4X as either a front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. Both models come with a 71kWh battery pack, while the largest claimed range you can achieve is in the front-wheel-drive edition, at 317 miles. In terms of power, the four-wheel-drive model has the upper hand, at 218hp. The starting price of this all-new Toyota is £42,000. Genesis GV70 review: Better than the Germans?! 😳

Want to know how to sell your car? 83% of customers get a higher price with carwow - it’s also free and easy! Check us out here: 🤍 ............................................................. It’s time to get Mat’s in-depth review of the new Genesis GV70! What’s Genesis? In much the same way that Lexus is a premium, up-market version of Toyota, Genesis is a premium, up-market offering from Hyundai. The latest car from this relatively new brand is this GV70 SUV. It’s an alternative to the likes of the many German SUVs you’ll see (almost without fail) on your morning commute or school run, including the Audi Q54, the BMW X3 and the Mercedes GLC. You won’t mistake the GV70 for any of those cars, though. It looks completely different from every angle thanks to plenty of Genesis’ signature design details including stacked two-piece headlights and tail lights, a broad, angular front grille and a steeply raked window pillar at the side. Things get even more eye-catching inside. Genesis has really pushed the boat out for the GV70’s interior and you’ll find loads of posh-looking trims and plenty of plush materials. It’s just a shame that unlike in most premium SUVs, you still need a cable to connect your phone to the otherwise decent infotainment system. Another area where the GV70 differs from its alternatives is when you come to pick the engine you want. Unusually, you can choose from petrol, diesel AND electric options. The last of which Genesis claims will return up to 282 miles according to the combined WLTP test. So, how does this new Genesis SUV stack up against better-known and much-loved alternatives from BMW, Audi and Mercedes? The standard hybrid comes equipped with a 1.6-litre turbo petrol engine coupled with an electric motor to produce 139hp. You can also buy the Niro as a plug-in hybrid, which has the same set-up but a bigger battery and motor. So not only can it run on electric power alone for around 40 miles, but it can also put down 180hp. Then there's an all-electric version. This is equipped with a single electric motor which is good for 201hp. The price starts from £28,000 for a hybrid, with the EV starting at £35,000! So it all looks pretty impressive, but is the Niro really worth that £28,000 starting price? Stick with Mat to see for yourself! New Range Rover review... With a twist!

Want to know how to sell your car? 83% of customers get a higher price with carwow - it’s also free and easy! Check us out here: 🤍 ............................................................. Shout-out to Yianni for lending us his Range Rover! 🤍Yianni Here it is, our review of the all-new Range Rover! The Range Rover has always been seen as pretty much the pinnacle of British SUV craftsmanship (no offence, Bentley Bentayga…), but the question is, does the latest generation live up to the quality of the last iteration? Well, it’s time to find out! Mat’s joined forces with Yianni to put the new Range through its paces. In terms of cost, it starts from around £99,000, jumping all the way up to £180,000 - so what do you get for your money? Well starting with the design, it’s so much smoother and sleeker than before. From the front through to the back, this is one SUV that’s done away with the creases and curves, but one which thankfully remains unmistakably a Range Rover! Around the back, you’ll find hidden lights which are integrated into the car, along with flush door handles on either side and an all-new grille design up front. The quality continues on the inside, too. Sure, it’s maybe not as luxurious as a Bentayga, but it’s still built to a high quality! The chairs are super comfy, and there is a whole load of storage to be found throughout the cabin. You get a big infotainment screen up front coupled with some physical climate control buttons, and of course, it comes with a digital dial display. In terms of engines, there are a number of petrol and diesel options to choose from, with the range-topper being a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that can deliver 530hp! So what do you think? It doesn’t come cheap, but has the new Range Rover reclaimed its SUV crown? You’ll have to stick with Mat and Yianni to see for yourself! The 2023 BMW M4 CSL ($166,500 starting in Canada, $140,895 starting in the US) is both exclusive and expensive - meaning expectations are high. Limited to only 1000 units, and with a price tag that lands you in some pretty serious waters among competitors, this ultra-lightweight, beefed-up, track-focused M4 aims to stand out from the crowd and honour the legendary CSL nameplate. It has 40 more horsepower and weighs 239 lb less than the current generation M4 Competition. It also has a stiffer chassis and no rear seats for extra weight savings. But does it live up to its mighty price tag? Thomas and James determine if this is a true CSL and one of the BMW greats or simply an overpriced sports sedan with a flashy persona. We hope you enjoy the episode. Thanks for watching! SUBSCRIBE! The Volvo XC90 isn't cheap, but compared to the new Range Rover, it could be a bargain... Read more at Auto Express: New 2022 Volvo XC90 review: 🤍 New 2022 Volvo XC90 details and specs: 🤍 SUBSCRIBE for more new car reviews and Steve Sutcliffe track tests: 🤍 The Volvo XC90 is a luxury SUV that rivals models such as the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Range Rover Sport. It’s been around since the early noughties, but the launch of the second-generation car in 2015 marked a step-change in desirability, with the emphasis on coolly minimalist Swedish design to help it stand out from rivals. Updates to both the style, technology and powertrains have kept the XC90 at the top of its game, with the latest concave grille design, a new hybrid diesel engine and upgraded Sensus infotainment system all part of a 2019 round of upgrades. If you’re looking at the XC90 as a full seven-seater, its most direct rivals would be the Land Rover Discovery and Audi Q7, which also have a fully useable extra row. You can specify seven-seats in a number of other rivals such as the BMW X5, Mercedes GLE, Lexus RX and Range Rover Sport, but the limited extra accommodation in the rear of these means the extra seats are much more of the ‘occasional’ variety. But can it offer some of the new Range Rover's magic at around half the cost? Nicola Hume finds out. Want to know how to sell your car? 83% of customers get a higher price with carwow - it’s also free and easy! Check us out here: 🤍 ............................................................. This is the Bentley Bacalar! Now don’t expect to see one of these on the road anytime soon. You see, Bentley is only producing 12 of these ultra-rare convertibles, and each one is set to cost £2,000,000!! But is it worth the eye-watering cost? Well, let's start with a look at the design. Even though the Bacalar is based on the Continental GT, it’s got a whole load of new body panels made from either aluminium or carbon fibre! There are a whole load of big vents up front and in the bonnet (don’t worry, they’re all real) and overall it all looks pretty imposing! In fact, the only items carried across from the regular Continental GT are the side mirrors and vents! On the inside, similarities to the regular Continental GT continue, but Bentley has effectively re-trimmed it. As a result, the interior is covered in aluminium, leather and even wool! There are also a few bespoke changes such as a new clock, and new gear shift panels. There are also bespoke Bacalar dials when you turn on the car. Under the bonnet, you’ll find (you guessed it…) the same engine as in the Continental GT Speed - a 6-litre twin-turbo W12 that’s good for 659hp and 900Nm of torque. Either way, no complaints there - what an engine it is! So what do you think - even though it looks this good, is it really worth £2,000,000?! You’ll need to stick with Mat to see for yourself! Need help buying your next car? Click the following link and my team and I will help you choose your ideal car at a fair price - from Mat Watson! 🤍 ............................................................. This is the Toyota Mirai! Mat’s got his hands on the latest version of Toyota’s hydrogen fuel cell-powered saloon to see if it’s really worth considering over the best-in-class petrol, diesel & EV powered competitors out there! To kick things off, there’s no denying that the latest generation looks much better than its predecessor. The eagle-eyed viewers out there will notice similarities with the LS upfront… And it’s no surprise, given it’s based on the same platform! Anyone who splashes out on the range-topper will also be treated to some gorgeous alloy wheels. So it looks good, but don’t expect the Mirai to go breaking any performance records anytime soon! The hydrogen fuel cell powers an electric motor to deliver 182hp & 300Nm of torque. So it’s not exactly sluggish, but when you consider prices start from £50,000, that’s not that far off the price of a Tesla Model 3 Performance! So does this new Toyota offer enough to turn you away from the EV class-leading Model 3?! You’ll have to stick with Mat to find out!
